There is a current talent shortage across industries, and accountancy is no different. Apprenticeships have long been mooted as viable alternatives to a graduate education, and businesses have been taking them more seriously in light of the growing skills gap. Indeed, there was a 43% uptick in the number of apprenticeship starters beginning between August 2020 and October 2021, which gives hope for a solution to the current hiring problems. Will this be enough to plug the gap in the accountancy industry, or are there better options out there?
