A great article by Politics on the increased regulatory scrutiny of R&D tax relief. Companies planning to apply must notify HMRC that they intend to seek relief ahead of time. HMRC is clamping down on unethical exploitation of the scheme, yet the government intends to be spending £22 billion a year by the end of this parliament in 2024 to support it (GovGrant). Is this contradictory, or do you think that the government is sincerely trying to provide for small businesses while eliminating the cowboys?
